Porsche 911 Hybrid with All-Wheel Drive to Make Global Debut Later this Year
Codenamed 992.2, the upcoming Porsche 911 Hybrid sports car will get a retuned twin-turbo six-cylinder engine with an electric motor expected to draw power from a small, lightweight lithium-ion battery pack.
2024 will see Porsche bring 'no fewer than four new or considerably revised model lines' to the international market. These are the third-generation Panamera, the new Taycan, the second-generation Macan (in an electric avatar), and the 911 Hybrid. Yes, the iconic Porsche 911 will go partially electric this early summer. Codenamed 992.2, the upcoming Porsche 911 Hybrid sports car will get a retuned twin-turbo six-cylinder engine with an electric motor expected to draw power from a small, lightweight lithium-ion battery pack. The former will drive the rear wheels, while the latter will power the front wheels, hence the all-wheel-drive system.
The Porsche 911's hybrid system comprises a new 400-volt electrical system, an integrated starter-generator powered by a 48-volt electrical system, an electric motor, and a battery. Although the Stuttgart-based carmaker has yet to reveal the output of the hybrid setup, expect the Porsche 911 Hybrid to develop over 465bhp.
Porsche 911 Hybrid: Exterior, Interior
On the outside, the Porsche 911 Hybrid will come with revised bumpers, unique air ducts accommodating five vertical louvres on each side, and redesigned headlamps (likely to be HD matrix LED units for maximum visibility). Other bits are new brake lights and a revamped diffuser at the rear. Inside, expect the 911 Hybrid to feature the same dashboard layout as before; however, it could get a couple of software upgrades.
Porsche Panamera, Cayenne Get Hybrid System Too
Other than the 911 Hybrid, the e-hybrid variants of the Cayenne and the Panamera also come with this unique electric-petrol hybrid system. The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid gets a 2.9-litre engine and an electric motor, generating a combined 456bhp and 649Nm of torque. Porsche says the sedan can sprint from 0 to 97km/h in 3.9 seconds, 0.3 seconds less than the outgoing model, whereas the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid can do the same in 3.5 seconds. Meanwhile, the power and torque figures are rated at 529bhp and 750Nm, respectively.
Porsche 911 GT2 RS to Go Hybrid?
Some market reports suggest Porsche will launch the more powerful 911 sports car with a mild-hybrid setup, likely to be the successor to the 911 GT2 RS. This version will come with a 3.8-litre, twin-turbo, six-cylinder engine and a mild-hybrid system derived from the 963 LMDh. The combined power output could be 789bhp, while the torque figure could go beyond 800Nm – the same developed by the 911 Turbo S.
Porsche's Most Powerful Road Car Unveiled
A couple of days ago, Porsche unveiled its most powerful road car, the Taycan Turbo GT. The latest variant is also the quickest electric sports car the German carmaker has ever built. With the Weissach package, 0 to 100km/h comes up in 2.2 seconds. Meanwhile, the peak power and torque figures stand at 1092bhp and 1,340Nm, respectively.
