Skoda Superb to be Relaunched in India On April 3; Here's What We Know So Far
The Skoda Superb is available with a wide range of powertrain options for the global market, including a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid, and 2-litre TSI turbocharged petrol motors, as well as a 2-litre TDI diesel mill.
With the relaunch of the flagship Superb sedan in India, Skoda is poised to make a dramatic comeback. A recent media report states that the Czech automaker will introduce the updated Superb in our country on April 3, 2024. Skoda India discontinued the sedan in June last year due to declining sales figures. Notably, the company will be relaunching the Superb in its third generation. The sedan is anticipated to be offered in a single top-spec Laurin & Klement model with improved features and updated ADAS technology. The car previously arrived here as a CKD model, produced at the company's Aurangabad facility. However, this time around, Skoda intends to enter the Indian market with the B8 generation Superb by using the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route. Presumably, this version will have high-end equipment like 17-inch Stratos alloy wheels for a sporty look, LED fog lamps with cornering function, and adaptive auto LED headlamps. Three colour options—Rosso Brunello, Water World Green, and Magic Black—will be available for the car.
Skoda Superb: Powertrain Options
Earlier this month, the new-gen Skoda model made its debut in the UK. The Superb is available with a wide range of powertrain options for the global market, including a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid, and 2-litre TSI turbocharged petrol motors, as well as a 2-litre TDI diesel mill.
The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine complies with BS6 Phase II norms. The unit develops 188bhp of maximum power at 4,200-6,000rpm and 320Nm of peak torque at 1,450-4,200rpm. It is coupled with a seven-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox on the transmission front. The car takes 7.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h.
Skoda Superb: Interior and Safety Features
With amenities like the 13-inch infotainment system with Wired Smart Link, ventilated 12-way electrically adjustable front seats, a driver's seat massage function, and a 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit, the Superb's interior will provide an opulent experience. Furthermore, a 3-zone automatic climate control system, an 11-speaker Canton sound system, and wireless charging are also available to passengers.
In terms of safety tech, the model will have adaptive cruise control, emergency braking assist, park assist with a 360-degree camera, an active tyre pressure monitoring system, and dynamic chassis control. There will also be nine airbags, offering sufficient protection for the occupants.
Skoda Superb: Expected Price
The ex-showroom price for the Skoda Superb ranged from Rs 34.19 lakh to Rs 37.29 lakh when it was last offered in India. However, given that the model will now be completely imported, it will become more expensive. Pricing is anticipated to fall around Rs 55 lakh. The maker might begin local production of the Superb at a later point, potentially lowering the price by a small amount. Upon its return, the sedan will continue to compete with the Toyota Camry, which is presently priced at Rs 46.17 lakh (ex-showroom).
Following the Superb's arrival here, Skoda intends to introduce the awaited Octavia sedan in India. Both models are anticipated to breathe new life into our country's premium sedan market.
