Ather 450S

The Indian two-wheeler electric manufacturer added another offering to their portfolio, the Ather 450S. It is the second iteration of the Karnataka-based electric automobile manufacturer.

Apart from that, the Ather 450S is positioned below the Ather 450X Gen 3. Having said that, the former offers a smaller battery pack than the latter.

In addition, the Ather 450S is offered only in one variant and can be chosen from four available colours.

Given the Ather 450S price, this electric scooter takes the likes of the TVS iQube S, Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1 Air, and the Vida V1 Pro.

Specifications

Before jumping straight to the figures, let’s talk about the underpinnings of this homegrown electric scooter. The Ather company used a precision-machined hybrid chassis to structure the Ather 450S, which makes this two-wheeler robust, lightweight and agile. At the same time, this chassis is designed to accommodate a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which boasts a rated power of 5400 W and 22 Nm of peak torque.

With this engine output, the indigenous automotive manufacturer rates the top speed of the Ather 450S at 90 km/h. It also claims that this electric two-wheeler can deliver a range of 115 km.

As far as charging is concerned, the 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack takes 8.3 hrs to be fully charged from a regular charger.

The gradability of the Ather 450S is rated at 18 degrees. For your reference, gradability usually refers to the steepness of the grade that the vehicle is capable of climbing at an efficient speed.

Keeping the engine performance aside, let’s now jump to the other specifications of the Ather 450S. This homegrown electric two-wheeler stands on telescopic forks at the front and symmetrically mounted progressive monoshock at the rear. It is worth mentioning that most homegrown vehicles are engineered by keeping the conditions of Indian roads in mind. Having said that, it should be safe to saythat this scooter will soak the undulations and the bumps from potholes with ease.

Last but not least, the Ather 450S has a 12-inch alloy wheel at the front and rear. The tyre profile is also the same on both ends, which is rated at 90/90 R12.

Features

As far as the Ather 450S features are concerned, this homegrown electric scooter packs an anti-theft system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a side stand alarm, a low battery indicator, and a digital clock. Further, it has a 22-litre under-seat storage, LED DRLs, LED headlights, LED tail- and brake lamps, LED indicator lights, and parking assist. It also offers a pass light, a start/stop button, ride modes (Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, and Sport), a GPS navigation system, and a pillion seat with a grabrail and footrests.

Safety

On the safety front, the Ather 450S is equipped with a combined braking system (CBS), which is standard. This is an important safety offering, as it prevents the two-wheeler from skidding or making a stoppie, especially during emergency brakings.

In parallel, the braking duties are taken care of by dual disc brakes. This setup is superior to the conventional disc drum and drum brakes.

Prices and Variants

The Ather company offers the 450S in one variant only, the standard (STD). And, as mentioned earlier, the Ather 450S is priced similarly to its direct rivals.
