<p>Datsun is an automotive brand owned by <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/nissan/">Nissan</a>. Its original production run began in 1931 when the company name was changed from DAT Jidosha Seizo to Datson, to represent the term 'son of DAT'. Later, when Nissan took the reins of the company in 1934, the moniker was finally changed to Datsun.</p>

<p>Datsun is remembered for making car models such as the 240Z, the 510 sedan and the Fairlady coupes. In 1981, after selling 20 million cars in 190 countries, the brand was phased out to promote the Nissan name. However, the brand was revived in 2012 to represent the small, economic models of the company.&nbsp;Since then, all Datsun cars have been best known in the economic segment.</p>

<p>Datsun emerged on the Indian automotive landscape in July 2013, when it revealed its first model for the Indian market. The first ever Datsun car in India was the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/datsun/go/">Go</a>, which was launched in 2014. It was followed by the launch of its larger sibling, the Go+ in 2015 and the newest Datsun car (as of 2018) to follow was the Redi-Go, launched in 2016.</p>

<p>These three cars form the company’s 2018 model line-up for Datsun cars in India.</p>

The AMT equipped Datsun Redigo is essentially driven by the very same engine and gearbox combination found on the Renault Kwid, because both the cars are mechanically quite identical.

Datsun is said to launch the automated manual transmission (AMT) equipped redi-GO in Q1, 2018. The AMT gearbox equipped redi-GO will be only available with the larger 1.0-litre version, which was launched in India in July this year.
