Mahindra, the Indian auto major, has recently confirmed that a team of two professional drivers in the Scorpio-N, the company's flagship model, has formally achieved a new Guinness World Record for the "Fastest crossing of the Simpson Desert by a production vehicle." Guinness World Records authorities validated the record-breaking stint. In under 13 hours, the Mahindra Scorpio-N traversed 1100 sand dunes and 50 °C outdoor temperatures. Ben Robinson of 4WD Industries and Gene Corbett of Total Driver co-drove the Scorpio-N as a crew of photographers and videographers also joined them to capture the achievement on camera. Birdsville was the starting point of this record-breaking journey, which took 13 hours to complete. It ended at Alkaseltzer Bore. Salt flats located 20 metres above sea level that posed a considerable problem owing to their high moisture content were one obstacle the Scorpio-N conquered over the 385-kilometre long journey.
