The design patent confirms that the new Celerio is in the works and is likely to be launched by the end of this year. Also, it will most likely have more features and will offer improved safety.
The design patents of the Maruti Suzuki hatchback have been leaked on social network platforms, confirming that a new generation of Celerio is in the works. The 3D renderings of the new Celerio reveal its design and styling, giving us an idea of what to expect.
The first thing to notice is that the Maruti Suzuki has done away with the tall-boy design philosophy of the outgoing Celerio. This could, in turn, mean reduced space. The bonnet line is relatively flatter, with a high-nose-like stance. Even though the Japanese carmaker has done away with the tall-boy design, the seating of the new Celerio could be upright and as high as the current Celerio on sale. The wide opening door aperture and relatively high seating position could mean easy ingress and egress.
The new Celerio is expected to be based on an all-new platform – most likely an iteration of Maruti Suzuki’s Heartect platform. The current Maruti Suzuki Celerio on sale scored zero stars in a crash test conducted by Global NCAP. The new platform is likely to bring along improved safety standards with more equipment. The feature list is likely to be a long one, with the addition of a touch-operated infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay.
The engine is likely to be the same 1.0-litre unit, which will be paired to a five-speed manual. Maruti Suzuki will continue with AMT as an option with the new hatchback. The current model of Celerio is priced between Rs 4.65 and 5.83 lakh (ex-showroom), excluding the CNG models. The new generation Celerio could be dearer by Rs 20,000 – 25,000 across all variants.
Expect the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio to break cover by the end of this year. The hatchback will continue to rival the Hyundai Santro. A new Celerio X, based on the hatchback, could be introduced sometime in 2022.
