Subsequent to the launch of the Suzuki Gixxer SF and Gixxer SF 250, Suzuki has now introduced a refreshed version of the Gixxer 155. Unlike the outgoing model, this new Gixxer is fuel injected – a move that Suzuki would eventually would have to make with the BSVI norms around the corner. It also comes with a single-channel ABS. With all these additions and a new design, the 2019 Suzuki Gixxer has been priced at Rs 1,00,212 (ex-showroom Delhi) – a premium of about Rs 12,000 over the outgoing model, and just about Rs 10,000 cheaper than its faired sibling.
Speaking on the launch of the new Suzuki Gixxer, Koichiro Hirao, Company Head, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. said, “The new Suzuki Gixxer is built keeping in mind a dynamic rider seeking exhilaration and power with each ride. We are excited to continuously build our motorcycle portfolio, aiming to increase our market share in the segment. As we continue to move towards widening our Suzuki family, we look forward to winning more hearts with our thought-through product range specially designed for the Indian market.”
The most evident changes to the 2019 Gixxer include a new LED headlight and taillight, a new split seat and the addition of a tyre hugger. While the fuel tank seems to be carried forward from the outgoing model, this 2019 model has new tank extensions. The exhaust has also been mildly reworked with its twin barrel looking a lot sharper now. The alloy wheels have been carried forward from the older model.
At the heart, the 2019 Gixxer continues to make 13.9bhp and 14Nm from a 155cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor. This engine continues to be paired with a 5-speed transmission. As far as dimensions go, the 2019 Gixxer is now, 2020mm long, 800mm wide and 1,035mm tall in comparison to 2,050mm, 785mm and 1,030mm. Interestingly, the wheelbase of the new Gixxer has increased by 5mm – from 1,330mm to 1,335mm.
Just like before, the new Suzuki Gixxer will continue to compete against the Honda CB Hornet 160, the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and the Yamaha FZ-S v 3.0.
