Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Specs Revealed Ahead of India Launch, Offers a Shorter Wheelbase than Super Meteor

The highly anticipated Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 has been in the testing phase for a considerable time, and it is expected to make its official debut in India in late 2023 or early 2024. However, before its commercial launch, it is expected to be showcased at this year's Rider Mania event.

The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650, based on the SG650 Concept, adopts a bobber-style design and could be positioned alongside the Super Meteor 650 cruiser, which was introduced in 2022. Just as a reminder, the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 initially made its debut in concept form (SG650) at EICMA 2021, and it has been in development since then. Royal Enfield chose to unveil the Super Meteor 650 ahead of the Shotgun. Now, with the homologation done by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), all the essential details and specifications of the Shotgun 650 are available to the public.

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650: Engine and Output

The upcoming Shotgun 650 will come powered by the same 647.95cc parallel-twin engine that does duty in the Super Meteor. Its power output is rated at 46.3bhp at 7,250rpm, while the torque figure is not known yet. Expect it to be the same (52Nm) as that of the Super Meteor 650. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox, while a slipper clutch will be standard. 

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650: Size/Dimensions

According to the approval certificate, the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 measures 2,170mm in length, which makes it 90mm shorter than the Super Meteor. The width and height of the Shotgun 650 stand at 820mm and 1,105mm, respectively. It features a wheelbase of 1,465m, which is 35mm shorter than the Super Meteor. Although the kerb weight figure is not available as of now, the approval document says that its gross weight is 428kgs, which means that the kerb weight could be about 248kgs, making it heavier than the 241kg Super Meteor. Expect the bike to hold up to 15 litres of fuel, just like the Meteor.

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650: Design

The production-spec Shotgun 650 is likely to borrow its design cues from the SG650 concept. It will get authentic bobber styling, with a single-piece seat and a low-slung stance. Spy images suggest that the bike will come with an optional pillion seat. Other features include LED lighting, a round headlamp with a custom nacelle, a circular fuel tank, short fenders, revamped twin exhausts, and a revised rider triangle (centre-set footpegs for comfortable riding, a lower handlebar, etc.). 

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650: Hardware

The suspension setup will comprise upside-down forks at the front and twin shocks at the rear. Braking duties will be carried out by discs at both ends, supported by dual-channel ABS (as standard).

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650: Price

In the Indian market, the Shotgun 650 could be priced between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 3.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will rival the Kawasaki Vulcan S.
