Triumph Speed Twin 900, Scrambler 900 launched in India - All you need to know
The new Speed Twin 900 and the Scrambler 900 come with a mere rebadging job to make them in line with their elder siblings. While the mechanicals is retained from the outgoing versions, the duo gets a new paint option like the Speed Twin 1200 and Scrambler 1200.
The new Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900 get the same core aspects as the outgoing version but with new paint options.
Triumph has launched the Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900 in India. The motorcycles are essentially the same as Street Twin and Street Scrambler with new names. Triumph has even retained the starting price of both models and the motorcycle does not come with any mechanical tweaks.
Triumph Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900: What's new
The company has rebadged its 900cc modern classic motorcycles from the Bonneville lineup for the model year 2023 to make them more in line with its elder siblings, the Speed Twin 1200 and Scrambler 1200. While the mechanicals is retained, the motorcycle does come with new paint options and new badging on the side panels.
The Speed Twin 900 comes in three colours –
Jett Black – Rs 8.35 lakh (ex-showroom)
Matt Ironstone – Rs 8.48 lakh (ex-showroom)
Matt Silver Ice – Rs 8.48 lakh (ex-showroom)
The Matt Silver Ice paint option is derived from its elder sibling, the Speed Twin 1200. Similarly, the Scrambler 900 is also available in three paint options including –
Jet Black – Rs 9.45 lakh (ex-showroom)
Matt Khaki – Rs 9.58 lakh (ex-showroom)
Carnival Red/Jet Black – Rs 9.75 lakh (ex-showroom)
Triumph Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900: Engine and Underpinnings
At the core, the motorcycle remains the older one. It is based on the same chassis as the outgoing versions. It is powered by the same 900cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that outputs 64hp and 80Nm of torque. While the peak output is similar in the Speed Twin and the Scrambler, the engine puts it out slightly early in the Scrambler 900, mainly to fit its off-roading persona. Engines on both the offerings are mated to a 5-speed gearbox that comes with a slipper clutch.
Braking duties are handled by the same apparatus as before. There is a single 310mm disc at the front that is paired to an axially-mounted four-piston Brembo calliper and a two-piston Nissin calliper that bites down on the 255mm disc at the back. Even the fuel tank remains of the same size at 12 litres.
The Speed Twin and the Scrambler rides on different sets of tyres. While the Speed Twin 900 comes with a cast-alloy set-up with a 100.90-18 wheel at the front and 150/80-R17 one at the rear, the Scrambler 900 gets spoked rims with 100/90-19 wheel at the front and a 150/70-R17 unit at the rear.
The rebadging and the new paint options have made the Triumph lineup in India quite uniform which is most likely to be appreciated by the customers who are going for the smaller Bonnevilles.
