Despite Ford shutting its sales operation in India, its cars – mostly SUVs – pique our interest. One such SUV is the Ford Everest, or the Ford Endeavour, as we know it. The Endeavour, which was on sale in India, was due for a generation upgrade. Ford was also testing the new-gen SUV in the international market. Now, the firm has officially released a teaser video, which gives us a glimpse of the 2022 Endeavour.
For starters, the new Endeavour will be based on an all-new platform, but it will not have a monocoque chassis and will continue with the body-on-ladder-frame layout. The new platform calls for new suspension geometry and other cycle parts. The wheels on the prototype model featured in the teaser video appear to be larger in size and are shod with relatively low profile tyres.
The engine is likely to be a newly developed turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 diesel motor. The 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel unit from its predecessor is likely to be retained for lower variants. The chances of the new Ford Endeavour being launched in a petrol variant are very slim; however, some ASEAN markets could see the new SUV with a gas-powered heart.
The gearbox on offer will be the same 10-speed transmission that was offered with the Ford Endeavour on sale in India; however, the transmission is likely to be updated with new software.
There are no images of the interior as yet, but we suspect that the dashboard will feature a larger infotainment screen. The instrument cluster is also likely to sport a fresh design, along with the centre console and door cards, which might get a new layout as well.
An official international launch of the new Ford Endeavour is likely to happen in the month of January. Ford India does not have a manufacturing facility in India, so we suspect that the new Ford Endeavour – mainly the Ford Ranger, which is a pick-up version of the same – may make its way into the Indian market via the CBU route, just like the upcoming Ford Mach E.
In other news, Ford India has confirmed that it will retain almost 90 per cent of its service network. 'A significant majority of our dealers have signed up to the Dealer Service Agreement, which ensures that our customers will continue to have a Ford dealership to service their vehicles,' said Vinay Raina, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford India. He further added, 'We do anticipate a small reduction in the number of dealers in a few cities.'
Ford India has also confirmed that the existing customers will get service support for the next 10 years, and the company has also locked in the prices of spare parts for the next five years. This means that the current Ford owners won't have anything to worry about in case there is a shortage of spare parts.
