2022 Maruti Brezza SUV vs 2022 Hyundai Venue vs Kia Sonet: Spec Comparison

Maruti’s new Brezza is locking horns with the Korean cousins – the facelifted Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. Here’s a look at how things are on paper.

The 2022 Maruti Brezza has been launched, and it once again renews its rivalry with the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. The Venue received a facelift recently, but the Kia Sonet is the same as before. So, how does the all-new Brezza fare against the duo, i.e. the Venue and Sonet on paper? Well, we find out comparing their specs with one another.

Dimensions

As you can see in the table above, while all three SUVs have the same length, the Venue falls a bit short in terms of width as compared to the Brezza and the Sonet, both of which have the same width. In terms of height, the Brezza is the tallest of the three. All three cars have the same wheelbase as well. The Sonet offers the most boot space, while the Brezza offers the least. The Brezza also has the same tyre size across the range, whereas the Venue and Sonet get a smaller tyre size for the spare wheel and certain lower variants.

Engine

We have only compared petrol engines here, as the Brezza does not get the option of a diesel unit, which gives the Korean cousins a bit of edge over the former. The Brezza also has only one petrol engine, whereas both the Venue and Sonet get two to choose from – one is a naturally aspirated unit for light-footed drivers and the other is a turbo option, which is great for those looking for performance. The Brezza is not as quick as the turbo options of the Venue and Sonet, but it easily gets the upper hand against the smaller naturally aspirated motors.

Prices

The pricing of the Brezza has seen quite a rise, and of the three cars, it has the most expensive starting variant and the most expensive top-end variant. The most-expensive automatic transmission option is offered with the Sonet, whereas the most affordable automatic transmission is offered with the Brezza and the Venue. However, the Brezza gets a torque converter, whereas the Venue gets a dual-clutch transmission.

Takeaway

The Brezza sits between the naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines of the Venue and the Sonet, with its sole naturally aspirated engine and mild-hybrid technology. In terms of size, the Brezza is either equal to or a bit ahead of the two Korans, except in the boot space category, where it lags behind the Venue and Sonet. Given the new prices, the Brezza will now have to offer better features and drive experience, which is what we will find out once we drive these cars back-to-back for an in-depth comparison.
