The much-awaited launch by Jeep India has finally taken place in the country today. Jeep's flagship Grand Cherokee SUV has been launched at ₹77.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The fourth Indian-manufactured Jeep product, after the Compass, Meridian, and Wrangler, will be at a war with the Volvo XC90, BMW X5, Range Rover Sport, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and others.
It's good news for entertainment lovers, for the 2022 Grand Cherokee now comes with a co-passenger entertainment display with HDMI playback, which will remain invisible to the driver to prevent driver distraction. Additionally, the interior of the new Grand Cherokee boasts a stylish blacked-out concept with an amalgamation of asphalt grey and piano black accents. The latest model exhibits the quintessential jeep family look, with a particular resemblance to the larger Grand Wagoneer.
The model has a water-wading depth of 533mm and a ground clearance of 215mm. The new Grand Cherokee gets Jeep’s Quadra-Trac 4X4 system for much-needed assistance while driving on tough terrains where a huge amount of flexibility is required. The model comes equipped with optional terrain modes – Auto, Sport, Snow, and Mud/Sand.
The fifth-generation Grand Cherokee is fitted with 110 safety features, including, but not limited to, Level 2 ADAS features, such as lane departure warning, active lane management, blind spot monitoring, and eight airbags. It gets a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which produces 266bhp and 400Nm of torque and is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Apart from a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, and a segment-first 10.25-inch front passenger display, the Grand Cherokee also gets a 10-inch Head-Up Display. Jeep India has offered the new model with 33 connected technologies, including remote vehicle control, Alexa voice assistant, wristwatch extension, and 24-hour surveillance.
