Mahindra Thar Waiting Period Extends up to 18 Months, Has About 76,000 Open Bookings as of November

The Mahindra Thar has performed impressively in India ever since it launched in October 2020. The lifestyle off-roader has always been among the most well-liked SUVs in its class in the home market. As of November 2023, there are 76,000 open reservations for the Thar because of its extreme popularity and demand. Customers are still drawn to this model, as evidenced by the steady stream of nearly 10,000 bookings it receives each month. This ongoing demand confirms the car's reputation as a promising option for both casual and hardcore drivers. According to the homegrown carmaker, the demand for Mahindra SUVs is being driven by the Scorpio, which includes the N and the Classic versions. The firm reports that Q2 FY24 saw the greatest monthly bookings for Mahindra SUVs. As of November 1, the car even had the greatest number of pending bookings. Mahindra's SUV lineup comprises SUVs the XUV400 EV, the XUV700, the XUV300, the Thar, the Bolero, the Bolero Neo, and the Scorpio-N.

Mahindra Thar: Waiting Period
As far as the Thar's waiting period is concerned, the popular model will still be commanding a waiting period of up to 18 months (70 weeks) across India. This holds for the RWD hard-top diesel models; however, a waiting duration extending up to 6 months (22 weeks) is applicable on the petrol variants from the date of booking. Moreover, customers may need to wait up to exactly 6 months (24 weeks) if they intend to purchase a 4WD model.
Mahindra Thar: Powertrain Options
Speaking of the different drivetrain options, the Thar 4x2 is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that can provide up to 117bhp of maximum power and 300Nm of peak torque. This unit is not automated; it is only available with a six-speed manual transmission. In addition, the petrol 2.0-litre mStallion engine from the Thar 4x4 is still in use today, coupled to a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission and churning out 150bhp of peak power and 320Nm of maximum torque.
The model's 4x4 variant comes with two different engines, a 2.0-litre mStallion mill and a 2.2-litre diesel unit that develops 130bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. Unlike the 2WD versions, the 4x4 models can be had with six-speed manual or automatic gearbox options. The Thar 4x4 also comprises a manual-shift 4x4 transfer case, and certain variants have a manual-locking differential.
Mahindra Thar: Feature Set
A 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, halogen headlights with LED DRLs, steering-mounted controls, electrically controlled air conditioning, removable roof panels, and cruise control are some of the standout features offered by this off-roader. On the safety front, the model is equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill descent control, rear parking sensors, and a front seat belt reminder to further improve occupant protection.
Mahindra Thar: Pricing Details
In terms of pricing, the Thar 4x2 has a starting price tag of Rs 10.98 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.77 lakh in the Indian market. This is a substantial decrease from the 4x4 models. On the other hand, the cost of the petrol Thar 4x4 ranges from Rs 14.04 lakh to Rs 16.27 lakh. For the diesel variants, the price varies between Rs 14.60 lakh and Rs 16.94 lakh. All mentioned figures are ex-showroom.
