MG Comet EV, ZS EV with BaaS Program Launched in India, Prices Start at Rs 4.99 Lakh
Under the BaaS program, the MG Comet EV and the ZS EV can be had at a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 13.99 lakh, respectively. The full price list of both EVs is still awaited.
Not long ago, MG Motor India launched its all-new Windsor EV (electric vehicle) with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership program, wherein the vehicle's price is exclusive of the cost of the battery. The program requires owners to rent the battery to pay as per their usage, which is Rs 3.5 per kilometre. Now, this battery rental scheme has been carried over to the company's popular Comet EV and ZS EV, making them more affordable than before.
Under the BaaS program, the MG Comet EV and the ZS EV are priced from Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 13.99 lakh, respectively. Since the battery cost is not included in their asking prices, owners will have to pay a battery rental fee of Rs 2.5 per kilometre alongside the Rs 4.99 lakh initial acquisition cost for the Comet EV; the ZS EV can now be had at its asking price plus Rs 4.5 kilometre (for the battery). Besides the battery rental fee, owners are required to pay a minimum monthly recharge, depending on the financier.

Another highlight of the BaaS program is a 60 per cent assured buyback scheme for all MG electric vehicles. However, the option of purchasing these electric vehicles as a whole is still available. Without BaaS, the Comet ranges from Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 9.53 lakh, while the ZS EV falls between Rs 18.98 lakh and Rs 25.44 lakh. The prices are ex-showroom.
'With BaaS, we have created a platform for easy ownership, making our EVs more accessible than ever. Given the strong response to Windsor under the BaaS program, we are now extending its benefits to our popular EV models, the Comet and ZS. I am confident that this unique ownership model will further boost EV adoption in the country,' said Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer, JSW MG Motor India.
BaaS: Financiers
The BaaS program is supported by a network of finance partners: Bajaj Finserv, Hero Fincorp, Vidyut, and Ecofy Autovert. This strategic collaboration ensures what MG says is a seamless experience for customers across India, making the transition to electric mobility smoother.
MG Comet EV, ZS EV: Technical specifications
Apart from their prices, the MG Comet EV and the ZS EV remain untouched. The Comet EV gets a rear axle-mounted electric motor that develops 41bhp and 110Nm of peak torque. Powering this motor is a 17.3kWh battery pack with an ARAI-certified range of 230km. On the other hand, the MG ZS EV is equipped with a larger 50.3 kWh battery pack, which yields a claimed range of 461km. MG has yet to reveal the full price list of both EVs under BaaS.

While the Comet EV faces some competition from the entry-level Tata Tiago EV (with a 19.2kWh battery), the ZS EV is MG's answer to the BYD Atto 3 and the Tata Curvv EV, among others.
