Tata Nexon Likely to Get New Diesel-DCT Powertrain in India
The new diesel-DCT variant of the Tata Nexon is believed to be offered with a more powerful 'Kryotec' engine, which makes 116bhp in the Curvv.
The Nexon, which recently crossed the 7 lakh-unit sales milestone, is Tata's best-selling SUV in India. It currently gets two engine options under the hood – 1.5-litre diesel and 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol. The former gets a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, and a 6-speed automatic gearbox, while the latter can be additionally had with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT) gearbox.
While Tata has already confirmed the Nexon i-CNG by FY2025, leaked images hint at a new diesel-DCT option for the compact SUV. If we believe the leaked details, the Nexon diesel-DCT will be Tata's second diesel SUV to come with a 7-speed DCT. The other model to receive a DCT coupled with a diesel engine is the upcoming Curvv Coupe SUV, which will make its way to India on September 2. The launch date of the Tata Nexon diesel-DCT is under wraps; however, we expect it to arrive in the coming weeks.

Tata Nexon Diesel-DCT: Engine Details
While the current 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel engine in the Nexon delivers 113bhp and 260Nm of peak torque, the new diesel-DCT variant of the Nexon is believed to be offered with a more powerful 'Kryotec' engine, which makes 116bhp in the Curvv. At launch, the Nexon diesel-DCT could be positioned as the top-of-the-line variant in the lineup.
The petrol-powered variants, on the other hand, produce 118bhp and 170Nm of maximum torque. They employ Tata's 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-petrol engine. Price-wise, the Nexon Diesel-DCT is expected to command a premium of around Rs 50,000 over the diesel-AT model, which carries a price tag of Rs 15.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Nexon Diesel-DCT: Rivals
In the segment, the Nexon Diesel-DCT will rival the diesel-automatic variants of the Mahindra XUV 3XO and the Kia Sonet. Speaking of the XUV 3XO, the electric version of the XUV 3XO was spotted for the first time last week, revealing C-shaped LED DRLs (daytime running lamps) and a front fender-mounted charging port.
While the technical specifications are scarce, we expect the XUV 3XO EV to be equipped with a 34.5kWh battery pack, which also sees duty on the lower-spec variants of the XUV400. In the XUV400, the smaller 34.5kWh battery offers a claimed 375km range.
