The year 2024 witnessed the launch of several competitively priced electric vehicles (EVs) in India. MG made a splash in the segment with the introduction of the Windsor EV in September, while BYD rolled out a more budget-friendly version of the Atto 3 in July. Here's a closer look at some of the top mass-market EVs under Rs 25 lakh that could be your next purchase.
Tata Punch EV
The electric version of the Punch is the automaker’s first model built on the new Gen 2 EV platform, called 'acti.ev'. It has five primary variants (Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+), priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 14.29 lakh (ex-showroom).
In terms of features, the Punch EV is packed with cutting-edge technology, including ventillated front seats, cruise control, connected car tech, twin 10.25-inch screens, automatic climate control, a wireless charger, an air purifier, and an electric sunroof (optional). For safety, the Tata SUV offers ISOFIX mounts, six airbags, three-point seatbelts for all seats, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold. For the uninitiated, the Tata Punch EV scored 5 stars in Bharat NCAP crash tests. It received 31.46 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection.

Mechanically, the electrified SUV offers two versions: Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR). The MR features a 25kWh battery offering a range of 315 kilometres (MIDC), while the LR is equipped with a 35kWh battery, providing a longer range of 421 kilometres (MIDC). Both battery packs are paired with permanent magnet synchronous motors, but the MR version produces 81bhp, while the LR variant delivers a more powerful 120bhp.
MG Windsor EV
The Windsor EV is currently priced between Rs 13.50 lakh and Rs 15.50 lakh. These prices include the cost of the battery and are ex-showroom. With the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, the Windsor EV costs between 9.99 lakh and Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). In this, the price of the battery pack is separate, and you'll be charged Rs 3.5 per kilometres for the battery subscription.
The MG EV has three variants (Excite, Essence, and Exclusive), and is available with a 38kWh IP67-rated lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. This configuration allows a range of 332 kilometres. The battery powers a permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers 134bhp and 220Nm. With a 45kW DC fast charger, the battery can be fully charged in just 55 minutes.
Features-wise, the Windsor EV is equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch 'Grandview' touchscreen, aero-lounge rear seats with a 135-degree recline, a leather-wrapped 2-spoke steering wheel, 256-colour LED ambient lighting, a 9-speaker Infinity audio system. It has six airbags, a 360-degree surround-view camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability control (ESC), and an electronic parking brake with auto hold for safety.
Tata Curvv EV
Another electric model from Tata on the list is the Curvv, priced between Rs 17.49 lakh and Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Following the Punch EV, the Curvv is the second model to be built on Tata's acti.ev platform. It is available in five variants: Creative, Accomplished, Accomplished+ S, Empowered+, and Empowered+ A. The SUV Coupe has a liquid-cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMS) and two battery options (45kWh and 55kWh). The 45kWh model produces 148bhp, and the 55kWh variant produces 165bhp. However, both configurations produce the same torque of 215Nm. The 45kWh and 55kWh battery packs provide a range of 502 and 585 kilometres, respectively.
The SUV Coupe comes packed with several comfort and safety features like a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, auto-dimming IRVM, a voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, JBL sound system, wireless charging pad, front-ventilated seats, a 12.3-inch floating infotainment screen, ambient lighting, six airbags, a touch-enabled AC panel, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control (ESC), and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
Mahindra BE 6, XEV 9e
The Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e, based on the brand’s new INGLO platform, are standout electric SUVs in the market. While both share the same powertrain, they differ in the interior, and exterior design, and features. These models come in various variants, including Pack 1, Pack 2, and Pack 3. Currently, Mahindra has revealed the pricing for the Pack 1 configuration, with the BE 6 priced at Rs 18.90 lakh and the XEV 9e at Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
The XEV 9e and BE 6 offer two battery options: 59kWh (227bhp) and 79kWh (282bhp). The BE 6 has a range of 682 kilometres, while the XEV 9e offers 656 kilometres with a larger battery. Both come with rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive options expected.
Inside, the XEV 9e features three 12.3-inch screens on the dashboard—one for the driver's display, one for the touchscreen, and one for the passenger display. The BE 6, in contrast, comes with dual screens. Both models offer wireless phone chargers, ventilated, powered front seats, an augmented reality (AR) heads-up display, a panoramic sunroof, and multi-zone AC. For safety, the Mahindra SUVs get 7 airbags (standard), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), an electronic parking brake, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and Level 2 ADAS.
BYD Atto 3
The updated BYD Atto 3 now offers a more affordable option with the Dynamic variant priced at Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This variant features a 49.92kWh battery, offering a range of 468 kilometres and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds. The Premium and Superior variants have a larger 60.48kWh battery and are priced at Rs 29.85 lakh and Rs 33.99 lakh respectively (ex-showroom). Both have a range of 521 kilometres and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.3 seconds. Nonetheless, all variants are equipped with the same 201bhp, 310Nm electric motor.

The Atto 3 comes with a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, wireless phone charging, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and automatic climate control. It is equipped with electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360-degree camera, and seven airbags for safety. An advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) is available exclusively on the top-spec Superior variant.
