Toyota Land Cruiser Rox SUV Concept Unveiled with Open Top, Two-Door Design
Although the Toyota Land Cruiser Rox Concept is a unique model made specifically for the 2024 SEMA Show, it is expected to influence the brand's future off-road design strategy.
Toyota has unveiled the Land Cruiser Rox SUV concept, a bold reimagining of its iconic 4x4, featuring a striking open-top, two-door design. The unique concept is derived from the Land Cruiser 250, a model that is essentially the same as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, expected to launch in India. This model combines rugged off-road capability with a modern, adventurous spirit. Designed by Toyota’s Calty Design Research team, the Rox stands out with its custom features, including a sliding soft-top roof, pickup-style rear bed, and functional midgate. Its unique aesthetic is complemented by advanced features like Molle panel storage, a triple-bar roof rack, and integrated auxiliary lights. With a vibrant Spring Green finish and a robust suspension setup, the Land Cruiser Rox is a vision of Toyota’s future off-road vehicles, blending performance, style, and utility in one striking package.

Toyota Land Cruiser Rox SUV Concept: Styling Cues
According to the carmaker, ROX stands for "Recreation Open eXperience," a concept designed by its Calty Design Research team. The ROX began as a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser but underwent substantial changes, with over half of the vehicle being reimagined to create a radically different design. The ROX concept features a distinctive silhouette, highlighted by a sliding soft-top roof and a rear section repurposed as a pickup bed. The upper portion of the vehicle has been completely restructured, with A-pillars designed to resemble the frame of a trestle bridge and a sloped rear pillar equipped with Molle panels, ideal for securing outdoor gear.
Other notable features include custom grey roof bars with a triple-bar rack, seven forward-facing auxiliary lights mounted on the roof for added trail visibility, and a functional midgate that allows easy access to the bed and storage of longer items. The body is finished in Spring Green, a tribute to classic Land Cruiser colors, while a custom jerrycan sits next to the rear spare tyre holder. The vehicle also sports heavy-duty steel bumpers with red tow hooks, reinforced brush guards, a winch, and skeleton-style doors with open lower sections, mounted above sturdy rock rails.

The interior features custom 3D-printed elements, such as the front and rear doorsills, to improve the cabin's weatherproofing in the open-air design. The cabin layout is accented with Heritage Orange leather, adding a vibrant touch, while the door panels are fitted with safety kits and webbing to store items like sunglasses and other small essentials.

Toyota Land Cruiser Rox SUV Concept: Mechanical Details
The concept SUV remains unchanged under the hood, featuring the same 2.4-litre petrol engine paired with a robust hybrid system. Coming to the suspension, the company has upgraded the setup with a four-inch lift and expanded the track width by eight inches using forged aluminium control arms at both ends. To support the wider stance and fit the larger off-road tyres wrapped around 18-inch one-piece machined billet wheels, the vehicle features wide, trapezoid-shaped fender flares.
Although the Rox Concept is a unique model made specifically for the 2024 SEMA Show, it is expected to influence Toyota's future off-road design strategy.
