Mahindra Thar Waiting Period Extends up to 18 Months in India
The Mahindra Thar continues to command a significantly long waiting period that currently reaches over a year. Even though the Indian auto manufacturer is operating its facility at full capacity, it is still unable to complete all of the substantial delivery backlogs.
Mahindra's best-selling models, such as the Thar, the Scorpio N, and the XUV700, continue to face the issue of prolonged waiting periods in India. The Thar's current waiting duration reaches up to 70 weeks or close to 18 months, although its manufacturing facility is functioning at close to maximum capacity. At a starting price of Rs 10.98 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mahindra Thar is currently available for purchase in our home market in both 4WD and RWD configurations. There are two primary trims available for the off-roader: AX (O) and LX. Recently, the eagerly-anticipated five-door Thar was also spotted testing, disclosing important interior features. A redesigned steering wheel and a larger touchscreen infotainment system are among the significant cabin enhancements that the SUV will get. Now, let's take a detailed look at the variant-wise waiting period commanded by the current-generation Thar as of this month.

Mahindra Thar: Waiting Period Details
Starting with the RWD models, the waiting period for the petrol option is up to 4 to 5 months. The longest waiting duration, however, is for the diesel version, which extends up to 16 to 18 months. Depending on the variant opted for, the waiting period for the 4WD versions ranges from 4 to 6 months.
Mahindra Thar: Powertrain Options
Speaking of the available powertrain options, a 1.5-litre diesel engine, belting out 117bhp of maximum power and 300Nm of peak torque powers the Thar 4x2. This unit only comes coupled to a six-speed manual transmission; it is not automatic. Furthermore, the petrol 2.0-litre mStallion engine from the Thar 4x4 is still in use today, and it is mated to a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission to churn out 150bhp and 320Nm of maximum torque.
Meanwhile, two different engines are offered for the Thar's 4x4 version: the previously mentioned 2.0-litre mStallion unit as well as a 2.2-litre diesel engine with 130bhp and 300Nm of torque. The 4x4 models provide both six-speed manual and automatic gearbox options, as opposed to the 2WD versions. A manual-shift 4x4 transfer case is also available for the Thar 4x4, and certain models come with a manual-locking differential.
Mahindra Thar: Interior and Safety Features
On the feature front, the car boasts a range of amenities such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, halogen headlights with LED DRLs, steering-mounted controls, electrically controlled air conditioning, removable roof panels, and cruise control.
To enhance the protection of the occupants, the safety suite of the Thar comprises dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, traction control, rear parking sensors, and a front seat belt reminder.

Mahindra Thar: Price Range
As for the price range, The Thar 4x2 is available in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 10.98 lakh and goes up all the way to Rs 13.77 lakh. This is significantly less than the 4x4 versions. Moving ahead, the petrol version of the Thar 4x4 costs between Rs 14.04 lakh and Rs 16.27 lakh, while the diesel version is priced from Rs 14.60 lakh to Rs 16.94 lakh. All mentioned figures are ex-showroom.
