autoX Awards 2024: Toyota Taisor Performance, Quality and Value for Money Ranked
autoX Awards 2024: While it may not stand out in any single area, the Toyota Taisor impressively outscored more surprising rivals by performing well across multiple categories. Its standout strengths are its driving dynamics and practicality. The Taisor’s chassis and suspension feel remarkably well-tuned, making it feel like it’s in a class of its own.
autoX Awards 2024: The Toyota Taisor may not be the latest model in the line-up of cars competing for top honours at the autoX Awards 2024, given its close ties to last year’s Maruti Suzuki Fronx, yet it was still highly sought after by the crew. The reason is simple – while it may not be the flashiest, fastest, or rarest, it strikes an ideal balance as a daily driver. After a busy day of testing and filming, many team members tried to choose the Taisor as their ride back home.
As a refresher, The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is powered by a 1.0-litre K-Series turbocharged engine that makes 99bhp of power and 146Nm of torque. This engine can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. And in case you are wondering, yes, this is the exact same drivetrain – along with the exact same state of tune – as compared to the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
While it may not stand out in any single area, the Taisor impressively outscored more surprising rivals by performing well across multiple categories. Its standout strengths are its driving dynamics and practicality. The Taisor’s chassis and suspension feel remarkably well-tuned, making it feel like it’s in a class of its own. On the track, it demonstrated excellent stability and offered brilliant feedback, and it’s just as impressive in everyday driving. With identical mechanical hardware to the Fronx, I can vouch for its impressive ride quality, having driven the Fronx over 16,000km through diverse road conditions last year.

Where the Taisor could improve, however, is in its styling. It’s an attractive car, but a bit more distinction from the Fronx, which is also a good-looking car, would have elevated its appeal. This was reflected in its scoring in the ‘X-Factor’ category, where it lost some crucial points.
Overall, despite its similarities to an existing model, the Toyota Taisor is a well-rounded package that delivers solid value for money.
